The sunsets in the harbour are spectacular
If you are planning a trip across the Top (east-west), Gove Yacht Club will be a welcome stopover after your Gulf crossing! It should take you 2-4 days to reach here, depending on your boat speed and weather, of course.
Gove Harbour is situated in Melville Bay on the North West tip of the Gulf of Carpentaria at latitude 12 degrees 11' and longitude 136 degrees 42'. It has good holding to anchor for a few days or a few years! In fact many have decided to stop and make it their home.
The Gove Yacht Club has been welcoming visiting yachties since 1970. Our present clubhouse was opened in 1990 and is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. It’s always warm here!
The town of Nhulunbuy, (population 4000) is 12 Km from the Yacht Club. Transport to town is via a taxi or hitchhiking (more on that elsewhere)! Nhulunbuy is serviced daily by Qantas jets flying between Cairns and Darwin if your crew needs to leave, or join you.
While visiting, take the time to explore the wilderness and unique culture of East Arnhem Land. (see our Links page for more info)
We hope that you will find our website helpful but if we’ve not mentioned something here please contact our friendly staff or committee, and we’ll endeavor to help if we can.
Enjoy your stay!
